UGC Approves Ph.D. Research Ethics Course at SPPU

Starting March 21, Savitribai Phule Pune University has launched a mandatory Research and Publication Ethics course for Ph.D. students. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made earning two credits through this course compulsory. Admission to the course is open to PhD students admitted after December 2019.

The University has established the Center for Publication Ethics (CPE), which has received approval from the UGC starting the academic year 2021-22. PhD candidates are eligible for admission to this centre, with a fee of Rs. 4000 per student for the course.

The course curriculum comprises six units, emphasizing the core principles of science, ethics, and research. It spans one month, with a total of 30 hours of instruction. Continuous assessment methods such as tutorials, assignments, quizzes, and group discussions will be employed throughout the course. Additionally, a final online examination will be conducted under University regulations.

A maximum of 150 students will be enrolled in this two-credit course, aimed at fostering ethical research practices among Ph.D. scholars.
