After 34 years education in India will undergo a major change. All these years the thrust was on class 10th and 12th board exams followed by the graduation years. But the new National Education Policy (NEP) is all set to change it fundamentally.

Recently, it has been learnt that the recommendations made in National Curriculum Framework (NCF) would bring in major restructuring of the school system in India. One of the significant recommendations 5+3+3+4 formula will be the new structure of school education in India proposed under NEP 2020.

Among other recommendations : no examinations till class 2, semester system for class 12 (board exam twice in a year) and a freedom to pursue a mix of science, human development, commerce subjects.

The focus will be on developing cognitive, social, emotional and creative skills in students aged five to eight. Also focus will be on game-based and activity-based learning. For students aged eight to 11 years,’ the focus on project-based and experiential learning, including developing critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills.

Emphasis will be placed on subject-based learning for students aged 11 to 14 at the pre-secondary level. It will focus on developing conceptual understanding and analytical skills.

For secondary level students aged 14 to 18, there will be a focus on multidisciplinary studies, with an emphasis on developing both professional and academic skills.

NEP 2020 aims to provide a more flexible and inclusive education system with a focus on holistic development of students. The policy also emphasizes the use of technology to promote education, teacher training and development, and multilingualism.
