IIT Bombay Placements: 36 percent to Secure Jobs, people raise concerns over employment

Many students nationwide invest considerable effort into preparing for the IIT-JEE examination during high school, aiming to access quality education and secure promising job placements. Nevertheless, with 36% of the recent cohort from IIT Bombay failing to secure placements, worries about unemployment in India have surged. Out of approximately 2,000 students enrolled for the 2024 placements, 712 participated, yet a significant portion, approximately 36%, remain without a job offer.
This year, the proportion of students without placements stood at 35.8%, marking a 2.8 percentage point increase compared to the preceding session.
In 2023, IIT Bombay had 2,209 students enrolled, with 1,485 successfully securing jobs through campus placements. This resulted in 32.8% of students being left without placements, echoing concerns about the relatively low placement rate from the previous session.
Given that the institute couldn't find jobs for 36% of its students this year, many individuals turned to social media platforms like X to share their thoughts on the matter.
Students and parents are concerned about what we expect from institutes like IIT if the situation over here is just the same as the other colleges across the country. One of the users wrote, that getting into IIT was supposed to be a sure-shot way to jobs, but not anymore.
