University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar attends a review meeting with Vice Chancellors of Deemed to be Universities at UGC New Delhi.
This meeting was part of an ongoing series of in-person meetings with Vice-chancellors to discuss and map an action plan on National Education Policy (NEP) priorities.
This meeting was conducted by the Chairman to discuss the action plan for Deemed Universities. This information was shared via a tweet. Deemed universities enjoy full autonomy in deciding courses whereas universities not falling under this category do not have the authority to award degrees and they award the degrees to which they are affiliated.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notice unveiling the list of central universities graded autonomy under the UGC Regulations, 2018.
A total of eight universities have been granted autonomy which are categorized into two groups, with 4 universities falling under Category I and the remaining 4 under Category II.
