Pune: PhD guide booked for accepting bribe

 A 59-year-old PhD guide has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for taking a bribe from a PhD scholar to approve his thesis. The accused has been identified as Shakuntala Nivrutti Mane, who works as head of the department (economics), at the Babu Raoji Gholap College in Sangvi.

 According to the reports, the PhD guide demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant, a professor. The complaint had prepared an online thesis for Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) to obtain a PhD in economics.

Mane demanded Rd 25,000 from the compliant to approve his thesis. ABC got the information and they caught Mane red-handed while accepting the first instalment of the bribe of Rs 20 thousand from the complainant.

ACB verified the complaint on March 26 and laid a trap at the office of HoD Economics in Baburaoji Gholap College on Saturday. The sleuths caught Dr Mane red-handed as she was accepting the first instalment of Rs 20,000 bribe from the complainant, as per an ACB press release. 

Mane has been booked and the process of filing a case against them under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act is underway.
