RTE admission process starts in Maharashtra

The commencement of student registration for RTE admission has begun for the initial week of April, as announced by the education department. With the state's school education department's completion of school registration under the RTE admission process, the groundwork has been laid for the upcoming student registration phase. A senior official from the Department of Primary Education said that parents seeking RTE admissions can soon initiate the application process for their children.

Moreover, it has been emphasized that the Maratha reservation will be integrated into the RTE admission procedure for the ongoing academic year. Notably, amendments to the RTE Act now facilitate admissions in both government and privately aided schools, thereby expanding the pool of institutions eligible for RTE admissions this year. The figures stand at a significant 9,71,203 seats across 75,856 schools in the state, earmarked for RTE admissions. The outcome of this initiative is anticipated to unfold in the coming days.

While there is a notable preference among parents for admissions to English medium schools under RTE, the government has clarified that if a government school is available in the vicinity, opting for admission in an unsubsidized English medium school through RTE would not qualify for fee reimbursement. This stance has prompted considerable interest from English medium schools regarding RTE admissions, with official announcements regarding their stance expected imminently.

Despite the surge in school and student enrolment capacity for RTE admissions, all admissions are to be directed towards government or privately aided schools, this decision is criticized by various organizations. However, the government appears unmoved by these objections, maintaining its course of action.
