90K schools selected for the RTE admission process this year
According to the reports the deadline for the registration of these schools is March 18
90 thousand schools have been selected to enrol students under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The schools are selected based on the geographic mapping conducted by the state education department.
The state government issued a notification last month stating that RTE beneficiaries would get admission to government-run schools closest to their residence as their first choice, followed by a private-aided school. The last preference would be given to a private unaided school.
The decision was heavily criticized, by the parents and education experts as this will snatch away an opportunity for students to study in a good English-medium school. However, education officers countered it by saying that the increased participation in government schools will only help the schools to raise the standards of English education and it will help the administration to make these schools a better place.
The admission scheme under RTE has been operational in the state since 2011 and only private unpaid schools were considered in the ambit. According to the reports, the deadline for the registration of these schools is March 18. The registration will be done online after the registration, the process of accepting the admission applications from the students will start.
