Maharashtra govt issues dress code for teachers; jeans and t-shirts not allowed
It suggests that female teachers should wear a salwar or churidar with a kurta and dupatta or a saree whereas male teachers should wear a shirt and trousers with a shirt tucked in
The Government Resolution (GR), issued by the school department on Friday, asks teachers to follow the dress code as school-going children are impressionable and inappropriate clothes worn by teachers can have an adverse impact
The Maharashtra government has issued a notice, asking all teachers to follow the dress code. As per the code, teachers are not allowed to wear jeans and t-shirts, dark-coloured clothes or designs or prints. It suggests that female teachers should wear a salwar or churidar with a kurta and dupatta or a saree, whereas male teachers should wear a shirt and trousers, with a shirt tucked in.
The GR was issued by the school education department on Friday, asking teachers to dress up appropriately as school-going children are impressionable and inappropriate clothes on teachers can have an adverse impact.
“If an educator is wearing untidy or indecent clothes then school-going kids will have a bad impression and it will have an indirect impact on the overall personality of the students,” mentions the GR.
Guidelines for the teachers:
The dress worn by all teachers should be proper, female teachers should wear a saree or salwar/churidar, kurta, or dupatta. Also, male teachers should wear a shirt and trousers pants, shirt tucked in. Do not wear dark-coloured and graphic designs/paintings. Also, teachers should not wear jeans and T-shirts in school.
- All teachers should ensure that the dress worn should be neat and clean.
- A single dress code should be decided by the school for all the teachers as mentioned above.
- The concerned school should determine the colour of the dress to be worn by male and female teachers.
- The shirt colour to be worn by male teachers should be of light colour and pants should be of dark colour.
- Both male and female teachers should wear appropriate footwear (eg shoes for men).
- Scout Guide teachers shall wear Scout Guide uniforms.
- Male/female teachers should be exempted from wearing sports shoes if there is any medical reason.
Just like “Dr” for doctors, and “Adv” For lawyers, teachers will now write “Tr” as a prefix before their name. This decision by the state’s school education department is aimed at boosting the morale of teachers by giving them recognition. The Commissionerate for School Education is tasked with finalising a sign for the same, along with adequate publicity for it.
