Director of Primary Education told schools not to expel students under Right to Education
Under the RTE fee reimbursement amount is given to the schools only up to class VIII
Director of Primary Education Sharad Gosavi on Thursday issued a circular to all the private international schools stating private schools do not expel the students studying under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. This decision came in the backdrop of complaints from parents that several private schools are forcing them to remove their kids, admitted under RTE, stating that the state government has amended the RTE Act. Due To the amendments some of the schools in Pune have started to expel students admitted under the RTE Act. However, the director has mentioned schools not to throw students out.
According to the circular shared, if the parents are ready to pay the fees of the respective school and the students want to complete their further education in the school, no school can expel the students from the school after Class VIII, it read.
The state school education department has amended RTE. Accordingly, if there is a government or subsidized school within the one-kilometre area, RTE admission will not be given to non-subsidized English medium schools. The amendment is not welcomed by the parents as they fear that their children will be expelled from the English medium schools. Under the RTE fee reimbursement amount is given to the schools only up to class VIII.
