Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais advises schools to not give homework to students
"In Western countries there is no system of homework and we should also adapt their education policy to lessen the burden on students and make learning an enriching experience for the students" says Governor Ramesh Bais
Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais appealed to teachers to make students study at school instead of giving homework. He suggested teachers can nurture students by taking them on the field instead of giving them homework. Conducting field visits to historical sites, forts, rivers, heritage sites, and parks will not only attract students' participation but will also help them grow and develop in all spheres of life. He added, that in “Western countries there is no system of homework and we should also adapt their education policy to lessen the burden on students and make learning an enriching experience for the students. Education should not be limited to the four walls of the classroom; it should be made practical for students to comprehend and learn things better.”
Governor Ramesh Bais addressed the Teachers in a Conference program organized by the Vedha Professional Learning Community at Lonavla. The program was attended by Mission MNREGA Manager Nand Kumar, School Education Department Principal Secretary Ranjit Singh Deol, Vedha Coordinator Nilesh Ghuge, and others.
Governor Bais added that group participation expands students' thinking abilities and creates a sense of leadership and comradery. Participation in sports activities helps students to deal with success and failure. Efforts should also be made to keep children away from mobiles and electronic devices, encouraging them to ask questions to develop curiosity about new things.
Education plays a detrimental role in developing a society and a country at large. It is necessary to empower the students to acquire the necessary skills in the 21st century, changes have to be made in the educational policy. Bais appealed to students to update their knowledge by incorporating technology into education which will help them have confidence.
Teachers should connect through professional community learning rather than relying solely on government-organized training. Artificial intelligence can be used for personalized learning.
Bais also said that AI can help a student learn the right way, while on the other hand, teachers can get information about what skills students should have. Teachers should encourage students while teaching them. Surveys have shown that schools with fewer pupils make less progress than schools with more children. That is, children learn better in groups. He also said that the teachers should try to make the students study by themselves.
