Union Ministry of Education launches 52 short textbooks in Indian non-scheduled languages to promote primary education in mother tongue

The Union Ministry of Education has taken a major initiative to ensure that children get primary education in their mother tongue. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released 52 mini textbooks in Indian scheduled languages ​​including tribal languages. He said that this initiative launched in Indian languages ​​is a game changer for elementary education.

The new education policy will be a transformational step for young learners, especially for early childhood care and education, providing them access to education in their mother tongue.  An initiative has been taken to provide education in the mother tongue till class VIII. As part of the same, books have been launched in 52 Indian languages, including about 17 tribal languages. NCERT has launched 52 primers for mother tongue education at the school level. NCERT in collaboration with the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore have prepared short textbooks for students.

Dharmendra Pradhan said, "This initiative will promote education in Indian languages, realize the concept of National Education Policy 2020, and be an important step towards transformation in school education. This is in line with the government's efforts to promote Indian languages ​​in education at all levels. Rashtriya Vidya Samishka Kendra with their state counterparts and 200 TVs with DTH channels to integrate to empower teachers and learners and to make quality education more inclusive, innovative and equitable.

“In the new education policy, a step has been taken to provide education to all through the mother tongue up to class VIII, and work has started on it. Although all these languages ​​are spoken in very limited areas, NCERT has prepared to provide education in these languages ​​even at the school level. In this regard, initial books prepared in 52 languages ​​have been launched, which will soon be made available for reading in this area," added Dharmendra Patil.
