KVS students and teachers celebrated Earth Day in NCL
NCL donated two climate clocks each to the two Kendriya Vidyalaya schools and also awarded the students on their participation to the program.

A group of 120 students including 7 teachers from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ganeshkhind and Range Hills Estate visited National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL) to participate in the ‘Earth Day’ celebrations program. The group was welcomed by NCL Director Dr. Ashish Lele.
Dr. Lele briefed the students about the importance of celebrating earth day. Being our mother earth that provides us food, medicine, a place to live, fossil fuels and many other valuable resources for the survival of our lives, it has enough for every ones needs. But our greed for modernization has resulted in catastrophic changes in the weather pattern. He showed the relation between the climate clock and our survival on the earth, says Dr. Lele

Dr. Lele touched upon the green-house gases and how carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere can lead to harsh climatic conditions. He also explained to the students about the algae found in Great Barrier Reef, and which plays the role of producer in the food chain and how, due to over emission of CO2, algae’s life is in danger which can break the life cycle.
Dr. Vinod C Prabhakaran, Sr. Principal Scientist and Prof. of AcSIR delivered a talk on ‘Climate Change and C1 molecules’. He briefed the students on the increasing alarm of the global warming and started the talk with the electromagnetic spectrum and greenhouse effect. Dr. Wafia Masih, Head, Science Outreach Resource Center arranged the climate Clock demonstration for the students and encouraged them to contribute to reduce global warming. The PhD students of NCL explained the assembly of the climate clock during the hands on activity.

Facilitator certificates were also awarded to the Ph.D. students Akash Vyaware, Shibam Pal, Bharat Pande, Yogesh Gaikwad and Geetanjali Swain. Students and teachers found the program interesting and insightful.
