SPPU is set to organize workshops aimed at assisting first-year students in selecting their subjects
Considering the changes made in NEP the university has decided to provide workshops to avoid any confusion while selecting subjects
The implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) has started in the state and the coming academic year, students will start taking admissions in the first year in all the colleges of the state as per the NEP, following the guidelines the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has decided to conduct a workshop for counselling and guiding the students who have passed the class XII examination.
Recently class 12 exams got over, and students are waiting for the results to come meanwhile they are also looking for possible courses and universities to take admissions. To avoid any confusion amongst students and parents SPPU has decided to provide career counselling sessions due to the change in the NEP.
The implementation of NEP has started in all the autonomous colleges of Maharashtra. NEP will be implemented in all the colleges affiliated to the universities in the state from the current academic year effective, 2024-25. Due to NEP, students will be able to take admission in interdisciplinary courses. One subject must be chosen as a specialization from the first years itself. Also, of the subjects’ students have to select some subjects for major and some minor.
To avoid any kind of confusion in selecting subjects’ the university will now conduct a session dedicatedly to clear their doubts and help them choose subjects as per their interest. Earlier after completing 12 grade students could traditionally choose only six subjects. However, there are major changes due to the implementation of NEP. As a result, students who have passed the 12th standard need to be properly guided for first-year admission.
Therefore, a workshop is going to be held by the university soon. Mainly, many junior colleges are connected to senior colleges, it is planned to hold these workshops in such colleges. So that students and parents can clear their doubts by interacting directly with the experts.
“The students who have passed class 12th and are taking admission in the first year will be guided on various important topics including how to choose subjects considering the changes under NEP. The university has started preparations for that,” said Dr. Parag Kalkar, Prof. Vice-Chancellor, SPPU.
“Students are an important factor in the field of education. Information about the change in NEP must be communicated to the students. Important things will be told to the students in terms of admission to the 12th students,” said Dr. Devidas Vaidande, Member of the Management Council, SPPU.
